Proposal of the Week!

Word on the streets is that the Giant’s players weren’t the only ones who won rings on Sunday night. Linebacker Greg Jones’ girlfriend, Mandy Piechowski, won a ring of her own, an engagement ring that is. The couple, who were friends before they started dating, met in college at Michigan State. Mandy played basketball while Jones played on the competitive badminton team. *Just kidding guys, just wanted to see if you all were paying attention! Jones, of course was tearing up the football field. Jones knew that he wanted to propose to Mandy, who he had been dating for about a year and a half, but he just wasn’t sure when. He had even purchased a ring with a central round brilliant diamonds  and smaller diamonds on the band when the idea struck him, yes, the Super Bowl. So he enlisted the help of Giant’s tight end Christian Hopkins, who wasn’t playing during the game, to keep the ring safe until the final buzzer sounded.

Mandy remembers the moment vividly, as well she should as it was just two days ago, but I’m pretty sure she’ll remember it as long as she lives. She had run out to the field, already emotional from the close game, looking for Jones amongst the throngs of celebrating players and fans. She remembers crying when she found and threw her arms around him. “But then he put me down pretty fast and I was like, ‘Oh OK,’ And then he is digging in his pants and I am like, ‘What are you doing?’ He pulls out a box and I am still not comprehending what he was about to do.” Understandable as I’m pretty sure I would have been in shock as well. Mandy recalls her jumbled thoughts saying, “First thing I thought of was their ring and that doesn’t make sense. Then he opens it.”

Jones then proceeded to get down on one knee, (are you taking notes guys?) and propose saying, “Amanda Piechowski, will you spend the rest of your life with me?” See guys, there’s absolutely no need for a speech, especially if you propose on the field after winning the Super Bowl, it’s easy. “She already [knew] how I feel,” said Jones. “A speech wasn’t needed.” And although flowery speeches, a la Richard Gere’s speech in the movie Runaway Bride, are always a nice touch, all that you really need is to sincerely ask that important question. It sure worked for Jones because despite the post-game hoopla going on around them, Mandy only had eyes for him. “It honestly felt quiet for a second. I didn’t even know what they were doing with the trophy.” Although, while Mandy only had eyes for her betrothed, Jones was a little more worried about the amount of fluids that his new fiancé was losing. “She was bawling, I was like, ‘I don’t know how long she’s going to keep crying.” Don’t worry Jones, those tears were a good thing. They were a sign that you had gotten everything right! And maybe a gentle reminder that you should bring some Gatorade to the wedding, k?

Oh, and as if you even needed to ask, she said yes! We wish them a lifetime of happiness together.
